Our design principles create a shared understanding on how to design the customer experience at Digitec Galaxus.
They should make the philosophy that lies beneath our designs clear and understandable.
As a foundation, we design mobile-first. This ensures that all our users have a seamless experience on any device.
#Consistency
We aspire to offer every user a consistent and seamless experience. With every iteration, we strive to embed and foster consistency throughout the customer journey.
All elements in our ecosystem should be cohesive – what looks the same, behaves the same. This speeds up learning for our users, as such, they can quickly get familiar and be successful throughout their journey.
When designing, ask yourself:
Does inconsistency help the user to achieve his goals?
Do we have a more accessible or more intuitive way to achieve this?
Does the layout matches what the user may expect from other websites?
#Clarity
We use clear and honest language toward the user in our communication, even if this does not show us in the best light.
This transparency is also apparent in the user interface: We give the user control over his actions. For them, it should always be clear what happens when interacting with Digitec Galaxus. There are no unexpected events or unwelcome surprises. We intend to foster trust and security towards everyone we interact with.
When designing, ask yourself:
Are we adequately transparent and honest?
Does the user has enough control over the interface?
Does the solution help the user intent be achieved?
#Relevance
We put the user at the center of our efforts.
Less relevant information should be deprioritized or removed. Our product should be as simple and relevant as possible for the user, while maintaining their felling of control over it.
We test our assumptions and ideas with quantitative and qualitative research, with this knowledge, we prioritize what is most relevant to the user in their journey.
Ask yourself:
Is this information relevant for the user at this point in the user journey?
Do we show what is relevant for the user – or what is appropriate for the business?
#Reduction
We reduce the complexity of our solutions by critically questioning every element, and determining its hierarchy and weight.
Users should not be overwhelmed with unnecessary elements and features, as such, we take care to give users a clear focus and hierarchy on the page and in the user flow.
Ask youself:
Does the element bring value to the user and serve a purpose?
Can we reduce the number of options?
Is the element necessary, brings value and has the correct weight?
#High Quality
We strive for quality, be it in how we structure and organize our product or be it in how it looks.
Our work must feel slick and polished, and it needs to resonate with our customers in an emotional level. As such we continuously challenge ourselves throughout the design process.
We intend to deliver a high-quality design that distinguishes us as an experience apart. We create valence.
Ask yourself:
Does the minimal viable product fit our approach for high quality?
Are all elements (UI elements, graphics, icons, colours, microcopy) well crafted?
Does the new element break the appearance of the website in any way?
